August 2004 - Additional Entrepreneurship Centers I have mentioned in previous columns about the support and services offered through the Western Illinois Entrepreneurship Center located in Macomb, and now that support network is expanding to offer more services to small businesses and budding entrepreneurs. The Governor’s office has announced that two additional centers in Quincy and Galesburg are now open in west central Illinois to better serve our region. The Entrepreneurship Center located in Galesburg commenced operation July 1st and it serves Henderson, Warren and Knox counties. Dick Johnson has been named as the facility manager and to date more than 20 individuals have already taken advantage of the services provided by the Galesburg center. read more
September 2004 - Professional Downtown Assessment This spring Monmouth was invited by the Lt. Governor’s office to join the Illinois Main Street program, and one of the benefits of participating is a free, professional assessment of our downtown. Wendy Bell, the program coordinator, recently notified me that our assessment is scheduled for Thursday, September 30, 2004. Their visit will include a morning tour of the downtown, followed by a luncheon with select community leaders, and then conclude in the afternoon with an open public meeting with a presentation about the Main Street program. read more
